Amazon has had a lot of success with their Fire TV set top boxes, but the Chromecast is still king when it comes to affordable internet TV. A new leak reveals that Amazon is planning to combat the Chromecast with a TV dongle of their own.
As you can see in the photo above, the Amazon dongle looks very similar to the Chromecast. It’s simply a box with an HDMI cable. attached. The rumor claims the dongle will fit somewhere between the existing Fire TV stick and a new set top box. It will be capable of 4K HDR video at 60 fps.
The other device is a full-fledged set top box. It looks like a small cube with a few buttons on top and a glowing bar. It has microphones and a speaker for Amazon Alexa integration. The IR emitter allows it to control your TV, and it also supports 4K HDR video at 60 fps.
We don’t know anything about pricing yet but expect them to be affordable. We should be hearing some official news in the coming weeks. Do you have an Amazon Fire TV device? How do you like it?
