The Samsung Galaxy S9 could be here right after the new year

Samsung has been slowly shifting the timing of their releases over the past few years, with the company inching their schedule weeks to a month forward in an attempt to challenge Apple with new launches. They’ve kind of gotten there with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, but it seems they want their base flagship — the Galaxy S lineup — to get in on the fun, as well.

According to The Bell via The Investor, Samsung’s component orders have all been accelerated as much as 2-3 months. If history holds, this should translate to a month’s worth of fast forwarding on launch timing.

It’s said Samsung would likely make the announcement at the end of January 2018 for a launch in mid-February. We usually see the announcement in February just before or during Mobile World Congress, with a March launch to follow.

Rumor also has it that the Galaxy S9 won’t be a huge departure from the Galaxy S8 in terms of form and function. We once thought it could be Samsung’s first chance to finally get rid of that horrid fingerprint sensor on the rear as under-glass tech matures, but that supposedly won’t happen until later in 2018. That would make it the perfect opportunity for Samsung to attempt this strategy without compromising their QA process, something they can ill afford after the public forgave them for the Note 7 debacle.
