A few weeks ago we told you guys about a modded version of the Google Camera app — ripped straight from the the Google Pixel’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo release — that brought working HDR+ to non-Nexus/Pixel devices. This included everything from the HTC U11, OnePlus 5, Galaxy S8 (most devices with the Snapdragon 835 processor), as well as older Snapdragon 820/821 devices like the LG G6, OnePlus 3, etc..
The problem? The modded app was still very early and aside from freezing, crashing, or not even opening on some devices, only HDR+ ON was working — not the faster, near instant Auto HDR+. For those unaware, the camera app on Google Pixel/Nexus devices has 3 levels of HDR+: off, Auto HDR+ (nearly instant capture, slight HDR effect), and HDR+ ON (slower capture but more dramatic HDR). With only HDR+ ON working, the app wasn’t ready to replace my stock camera app, so I was forced to use both, switching to the modded Google Camera app in lower lighting situations.
Well, the developer working on the modded version of the app has been hard at work on improving the app and has even managed to squash many of the bugs and instability. The best part? Fully working Auto HDR+ for instant capture speeds. You’ll also find a now functional front facing camera (previously broken), 60fps video, and the app has added support for a handful of Xiaomi devices.

The results are incredibly impressive and will super charge the quality of most any device. You really have to see the results for yourself (samples above). Convinced? Download the app and sideload it to your device using the links below.
