Manufacturing a new smartphone — and then putting said smartphone in the hands of customers — is no easy task. Look no further than Android creator Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone which, after numerous delays, began sending out emails last week notifying customers that their phone would begin shipping in 7 days. That was last Wednesday and wouldn’t you believe it — customers have once again been left in the dark as to where their phone actually is.
After a Gizmodo article pointed out this little fact, Essential’s Twitter account lit up and just moments ago, announced that shipping confirmation emails would be hitting inboxes today. If you haven’t received one yet, it’s worth checking back as it looks like the news was being rushed before sh*t hit the fan and customers were left stewing all weekend. So far, only some press and social media influencers have received the device, but regular folk — those that paid for the phone with their hard earned money — have been left scratching their heads.
Those in the LA area who are curious about the hyped smartphone have an opportunity to check it out today. Essential is throwing a rooftop party full of free food, drinks, and a DJ allowing you to get up close and personal with the phone. The viewing party kicks off at 6PM and if you’re looking to attend, you’ll need to RSVP here.
