Samsung is one of the few manufacturers in the world with the pockets deep enough to continually push new technologies, even if they’re struggling to latch on with consumers. There’s no better example of this than wearables where Samsung has been releasing new iterations of their Gear smartwatch line for a few years now. We know they’re already working on updated models for 2017, Samsung already confirmed they’ll have more info at this year’s IFA trade show in Berlin on August 30th.
We already knew as much. Rumors that Samsung was working on new Gears hit the internet running after new model numbers were discovered passing through the FCC and receiving WiFi certification, but nothing that really gave us a look at what the watches actually look like. Smartwatches are just as much a fashion piece as they are a utility, so design is everything.
Newly leaked images are giving us a look at the upcoming Gear Sport, showing off Samsung’s tried-and-true circular design, and bright, colorful wrist bands. It’s hard to tell but the new design makes it as if the bands could be easily replaced with regular watch bands, opening up the possibility of 3rd party options.
The images came from some sort of online listing showing off a few Samsung products, but is skimpy on pricing and hardware specs/features. There is something about 5ATM waterproofing so it looks like the watch can be easily taken for a swim, so it’s got that going for it.
