Android viruses get talked about a lot, but the truth is there’s not much risk of ever getting one. Most of the viruses that pop up on Android are easy to avoid if you’re smart. A new trojan has a capability that is more dangerous than previous viruses.
The Dvmap trojan was disguised as a puzzle game called Colour Block. It was first a perfectly clean app, but then they updated it with a malicious version for a short time before making it clean again. With this method they were able to avoid detection for several months.
More important than their tactics is the abilities of the virus. Kaspersky announced that this was the first Android virus with code injection. It can execute malicious modules even with root access deleted. That’s important because banking apps rely on root detection to prevent infection. The fake app was downloaded over 50,000 times before Google removed it.
