Instagram generic hero

You can now hide your embarrassing Instagram posts in a private archive instead of deleting them

Instagram is testing a change for those who want to take their posts down from the public eye but don’t want them completely wiped from existence. You can now archive those posts.

Archived posts are hidden from public view, but can be viewed in a private area of the app where you and you alone can see them. This is great for those posts you don’t want anyone to see, but still want to keep up for memories or nostalgia or some such.

The need for the feature highlights Instagram’s growing importance in the social media space. In its infancy, it was thought to be a “Twitter for pictures,” where throwaway selfies and food porn went to be viewed and swiftly forgotten.

But it’s all grown up now, and it’s being used by tons of brands, celebrities, and people who primarily express their interests and thoughts through photos and video. Some of those thoughts they may decide they don’t want to share with anyone, but that doesn’t mean they have to be gone forever (especially since an archived post can be made public again anytime you wish).

Instagram says the feature is currently in testing with a small amount of users, but it should be showing up for more as the continue to iterate it in the coming months.
