Alexa devices have a 3-to-1 market share lead over Google Home

Slowly but surely, we have been seeing more and more products implementing Amazon’s Alexa Voice Services. However, the Amazon Echo devices are becoming so popular that a new report claims Google Home is behind by a 3-to-1 margin in market share.

The report states by the end of 2017, Echo products will hold more than a 70% market share with Google lagging behind at almost 24%. The report also claims that the “number active US users will more than double” in 2017, bringing the total number of users up to more than 35 million.

This is where reports like these begin to get a bit weird as we are expecting some type of Google Home announcement at Google I/O 2017. It’s doubtful that we’ll see a full replacement for the current Home, but it would be awesome to see a smaller product to take on the likes of the Amazon Echo Dot.

Finally, Reuters is reporting that the software and technology used in the Google Home is actually better than that of the competition. However, with the original Amazon Echo being launched back in 2014, Google has a lot of work to do in order to catch up.

Google I/O 2017 is a little more than a week away, so maybe Google will be able to respond with new products to take some of that market share away from Amazon. Regardless, the attempts may be futile as Amazon is likely nearing the launch of an all-new Echo device, complete with a touchscreen display.
