Ads are the worst, right? Especially those ads that contain malware and get into your device and make it vulnerable. Well, Google may be working on something for our mobile devices to help combat the really bad ads.
A new report from the Wall Street Journal states that Google is working on implementing an ad blocker into its Chrome application. The feature wouldn’t block all ads, as Google has to make money somehow, but those ads that ruin your browsing experience would be removed completely.
Regarding which ads would be removed, these are detailed by the Coalition for Better ads, which recently released a new list of ad standards. The offending ads include pop-ups, auto-playing video ads with sound, and ads which feature that stupid countdown timer before you can even read the content.
Naturally, we aren’t expecting Google to build a full-featured ad blocker similar to that of AdBlock Plus on your desktop, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I know that I’m not alone in thinking that it’s ridiculous to have a full-page ad take up the page that I’m trying to read.
