Periscope is our pick for the best live streaming app, and one of the things we like about it is the tight integration with Twitter. Several months ago, Twitter added a “Go Live” button to the Compose screen. Tapping the button would take you directly to the Periscope app. The latest Twitter update allows you to start a broadcast without ever leaving the app.
The experience is still largely the same. Compose a Tweet, tap the camera icon, and select the “LIVE” button. Give the broadcast a title and tap “GO LIVE” to start streaming. You don’t need the Periscope at all, but Twitter says the app is still the best place to search and discover live content. For most people, there’s really no reason to have the Periscope app now.
This move is most likely a response to Facebook Live. Twitter has been adding a lot of live content to combat Facebook. They want people to think of Twitter when they think of live video. Do you use Facebook Live or Periscope? Will you use Twitter for live streaming now that you don’t need a separate app?
We’re making it easier for you to share what’s happening in your world. Now you can #GoLive on Twitter!https://t.co/frWuHaPTFJ pic.twitter.com/Xpfpk1zWJV
