It’s hard to believe, but Amazon announced their plans to make deliveries with drones exactly three years ago this month. They’ve been hard at work ever since. Today, the company has announced that they made their first drone delivery on December 7th. This is a big step towards their goal.
Amazon recently started a trial for the service in Cambridge, England. This is where the first successful test took place. The customer bought an Amazon Fire TV (of course) and a bag of chips. It took only 13 minutes from order to delivery. You can watch the entire process in the video below.
The trial is only servicing a few customers in the immediate area of the special fulfillment center right now. The drones are only allowed to fly during the day in perfect conditions and up to 400 feet in the air. Amazon has a long, long way to go to make this a feasible service for the masses, but right now the testing is going well.
