The Samsung Gear S3 was launched a short time ago with a bunch of great new features. Many of these features can’t be found on the Gear S2, but that should change soon. Samsung is rolling out a “Value Pack” update to the Gear S2 with features from the Gear S3.
To start, the Gear S2 will get the preloaded watch faces that come with the Gear S3. It will also get the new Reminders and Alti-Barometer apps. The rotating bezel gets some added functionality as well. It can be used to accept or reject calls, dismiss alarms, timers, and alerts.
Handwriting Mode also makes its way to the Gear S2. Users will be able to draw letters on top of one another so you don’t have to wait for each letter to be converted into text. And since this is 2016, you can also draw emoji. To round things off, S Health has been enhanced with more activities, 3rd-party widgets are supported, and you get access to games from the Galaxy App Store.
All in all, this is a MASSIVE update for Gear S2 users, and for anyone looking to snag a new smartwatch, the Gear S2 just got a lot more attractive. The update will bring the device up to Tizen 2.3.2.1. It should be available for everyone in the coming weeks.
