As good as the Pixel camera is, it just can’t catch a break when it comes to these bugs. After an issue cropped up that produced lens flare in many-a daylight photo, users are now reporting constant freezing in the camera app.
To go along with the freezing, the camera will produce pink and purple lines in the resulting image. A thread that’s tracking the issue over at the Pixel product forums is brewing with others reporting similar findings.
A Googler was seemingly on the case as far back as October 28th as he requested more information to investigate the issue further, but there has been radio silence since.
We’re not sure what could be causing the issue, though signs seem to be pointing to a software bug as some are reporting that they only notice this issue happening when they use the camera in certain patterns (like while they are on a weak data signal). Other reported behavior — such as the issues persisting even when reverting to older firmware — would suggest it’s a hardware thing.
But without Google’s word on the issue then we’re all left guessing, and that’s why we’re going to get with them to see if there has been any movement on their end. In the meantime, be sure to let your voice be heard at the thread here if you’re suffering through similar issues.
