Google Pixel was more popular than the iPhone during Black Friday

Google’s Pixel phones proved very popular during the holiday shopping season for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as device activations were up 112% compared to activations in the preceding weeks. A new report from Localytics also reveals that the iPhone activation rates during the same period were only up 13%. The Galaxy S7 proved popular among Black Friday shoppers as well, as activations for it were up 36%.

Localytics’ report says these percentages were derived from device activations that occurred between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, a period of four days. The analytics firm says it draws its data from more than 2.7 billion devices worldwide.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what caused such a huge discrepancy between the Pixel and the iPhone, but it’s likely that most iPhone owners who planned on upgrading to the iPhone 7 did so back in September when the phone launched. Despite that, Localytics confirms that the iPhone 7 has performed worse this holiday season than its predecessor, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Those phones managed to achieve 36% and 29% growth during the same period last year.

Is it possible that people don’t have the same courage Apple had when removing the 3.5mm jack?
