If you’re living in Canada and purchased the Pixel or Pixel XL, you may have woken up to a bit of a surprise. Google has published the latest software update to the devices which includes the November Security Patch, but it seems that there is a bit more included.
According to a couple of Reddit users, the latest update is version NPF26J for Android 7.1 Nougat. However, the “P” within the build number is usually designated for developer previews, as has been seen with the latest Android 7.1 release for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. This leads us to believe that someone pushed the wrong button on Google’s end, giving users some new features under the “Moves” section.
These new “Moves include the ability to “Double-tap to check phone” and “Life to check phone”. The first move allows you to simple check for notifications from the ambient display, while the second move will activate the ambient display to show notifications.
If you want to check out these two new gestures in action, one Redditor posted a video which you can watch here. It seems that although this update was released accidentally, the new “Moves” are working fairly flawlessly so far.
It’s unknown whether someone on Google’s end just pushed the wrong button, but let us know if you’re seeing this update arrive on your device.
