The YouTube mobile application has been updated with a round icon and app shortcuts

Yesterday, Google began rolling out the latest update to the YouTube application. This update brings the rounded icon that we’ve seen with other Google apps, as well as app shortcuts after long-pressing on the icon.

When activating the app shortcuts, you are presented with three different options: Search, Subscriptions, and Trending. These shortcuts are not customizable, but there’s hope that capability will be added sometime in the future.

According to the APK Teardown from Android Police, there is also evidence that Rotten Tomatoes ratings will begin appearing within YouTube. This may seem pointless, but you can actually purchase or rent movies from YouTube without going through the Play Movies application. So it will be nice to be able to get an idea as to whether the movie is worth renting or not before doing so.

The update is slowly rolling out to more and more users, so it’s only a matter of time before it arrives on your device. If this has arrived on your device, give us a heads up and let us know anything that you may find.
