Huawei has made the Huawei Mate 9 Lite official

Earlier this month, Huawei made a big splash with the announcement of the Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design. The latter two devices look to take the lead in the market for top of the line smartphones, but what about those who can’t spring for the premium devices?

Well, Huawei has quietly announced the Huawei Mate 9 Lite for those who aren’t looking to break the bank. The Mate 9 Lite keeps many of the design queues that were introduced with the Mate 9, complete with the metal body, rear fingerprint scanner, and dual-camera set up. But that’s where the similarities pretty much stop.

Huawei Mate 9 Lite Specs:

  • 5.5-inch 1080p Display
  • Kirin 655 Processor
  • 3GB/4GB RAM
  • 32GB/64GB of Storage
  • 8MP Front Camera
  • 12MP + 2MP Rear Cameras
  • 3,340mAh Battery
  • Fingerprint Sensor
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow + EMUI 4.1

The display measures in at 5.5-inches and includes a 1080p resolution. Powering the Mate 9 Lite is the Kirin 655 processor, along with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. As for the cameras, Huawei decided to stick with the dual-camera setup found in its recent devices, but have lowered the quality to 12MP/2MP.

As for the cameras, Huawei decided to stick with the dual-camera setup found in its recent devices, but have lowered the quality to 12MP/2MP. As with its predecessors, the secondary camera keeps track of depth information so that you can take photos with the bokeh effect already present, removing the need to perform any editing afterward.

The device also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, placed directly below the dual-camera module. A 3,340mAh battery looks to keep you powered throughout the day while the software is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 overlay providing a unique theme.

It’s unknown when the Huawei Mate 9 Lite will be released, what markets it will be coming to, and how much it will be priced at, but we assume Huawei will share that information soon enough. Keep in mind, this is a mid-range device so while it won’t break the bank, it also won’t provide the best performance on the market.
