Google Home is just a giant Chromecast with great speakers
Google Home finally made its debut last week, bringing Google’s new AI assistant straight to your living room. As always iFixit has gotten their hands on one and taken it completely apart to have a peek at what powers the device. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it looks as though Google has reused some of its hardware from previous products, as the CPU, flash, and RAM found in the device are the same used in last year’s Chromecast.
Everything is powered by a Marvell 88DE3006 Armada 1500 Mini Plus dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 media processor, while the speaker itself is powered by a Peerless PLS-50N25AL07-04. Perhaps most interestingly is the device scored pretty high on iFixit’s repairability score, earning an 8 out of 10 for the device. That’s better than Amazon’s Echo competitor, which only scored a 7 out of 10.
Google Home is currently available from the Google Store for $129.99, but also from retailers like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy.
