Huawei has seemingly come out of nowhere in the last few years. They only started selling phones four years ago. In that short time, they have risen to the 3rd biggest smartphone maker in the world. Only Apple and Samsung are bigger. Huawei has their eye on passing the folks from Cupertino next
Huawei is still a healthy margin behind Apple. Apple sold 45.5 million devices in Q3, while Huawei sold 33.6 million. Apple’s market share is 12%, Huawei is at 9%. CEO Richard Yu had this to say about catching Apple:
“We are going to take them (Apple) step-by-step, innovation-by-innovation. There will be more opportunities. Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality. It is like driving a car. At every curve or turn, there is an opportunity to overtake the competition.”
The growth over the last 4 years has been pretty insane, we wouldn’t be surprised if Huawei passed Apple in 2 years. What do you think?
