The Huawei Mate 9 comes in a Porsche Design limited edition

The Huawei Mate 9 event held an interesting surprise in the limited edition Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design phone. This isn’t the first time the subsidiary of Porsche has lent its name to a phone, but this does mark the first time the company has partnered with Huawei.

To dig right into the specs of the phone, it’s a bit smaller than the Huawei Mate 9 it was unveiled alongside, featuring a 5.5″ display. It features a QHD 534ppi AMOLED screen and is both thinner and lighter than the Mate 9, clocking in at 7.5mm. Despite all that, it keeps the same massive 4,000mAh battery found in its bigger cousin. Powering it all is Huawei’s much lauded Kirin 960 chipset, packed with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage.

Alongside the famous Porsche brand sits two Leica-branded cameras, one features a 12MP color sensor while the other is a 20MP black & white sensor. According to Huawei, this camera duo is the second generation camera of what was found in the Huawei P9 and thanks to the Kirin 960, it’s able to capture 4K video which the P9 couldn’t do. Huawei’s last trick up its sleeve with the camera is Hybrid Zoom, which is a 2x digital zoom that uses information from both camera sensors.

You can expect to pay a premium for this phone, featuring Porsche and Leica brands alongside beefy internals. Huawei says the phone will be available in European Porsche Design stores starting in December for €1,395. The worldwide rollout won’t happen until January of next year, but the United States isn’t included in that list.
