Huawei announces the Mate 9 with giant display and battery

Phablets aren’t unique anymore, but we still have to marvel at what constitutes a “phone” these days. The Huawei Mate 9 pushes the boundaries with a massive 5.9-inch display. That’s bigger than the LG V20, Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Pixel XL, and iPhone 7 Plus. Like the iPhone, the Mate 9’s giant display is only 1080p.

To go along with the big display, Huawei has included a 4000 mAh battery. That’s 500 more than the Note 7 and Pixel XL. Pair that with the 1080p display and you should get exceptional battery life. Other important specs include Huawei’s octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, same dual-camera setup as the P9 (12 + 20MP), and Android Nougat with Emotion UI.

The Mate 9 will be available in a fancy “Porsche” option along with brown, black, white, gold, and silver. Huawei is promising US availability for the Mate 9, but they didn’t release any specific details. We’ll have to wait on pricing information as well. Are you interested in the Mate 9 at all?
