As expected, Lenovo officially launched the Phab 2 Pro today, but the real excitement surrounding this phone isn’t because of its specs. It’s the first Tango-enabled smartphone that brings augmented reality to Android. Google posted an announcement about the availability of the device, stating there are 35+ Tango-enabled apps to try out on the Phab 2 Pro.
So what is Tango? It’s a collection of apps that support augmented reality, thanks to Google’s app incubator program to get developers on board with augmented reality. You can measure anything in your house with the Measure app. Furniture apps like WayfairView, Lowe’s Vision, and Homestyler Interior Design can help you re-imagine what a room looks like with the help of your smartphone.
There’s also a handful of games in Tango, including Domino World that lets you play dominoes without having to worry about picking up the tiles later. You can raise virtual pets, explore the solar system, build new digital worlds, and race on your own custom-built race tracks, but you’ll need a Phab 2 Pro to do it all.
