After Samsung switched to an entirely new battery supplier for the Galaxy Note 7 and still suffered issues, the company is seemingly unwilling to rule out doing business with any partners for battery tech in the future. Even if that partner is their long-time rival LG.
A Samsung spokesperson said that LG Chem — the chemical development arm of LG — was included in a long list of potential suppliers for the future. Samsung had originally used batteries from their own SDI firm, and the second attempt was made with a Chinese company known as ATL.
The unlikely circumstances of suffering the same faulty component issue from 2 different suppliers brings unlikely solutions for the future. For Samsung, that means getting into bed with the rivals situated in their own backyard.
