0

Every week, hundreds of Android apps and games are submitted to the Play Store. If you’re not paying attention 24/7, it’s easy to miss some of the best stuff. Each week we will highlight five of the best new or overlooked apps and games. You’re sure to find some hidden gems in these recommendations. Go forth and download!

1. Flychat

flychat

Flychat is a nifty app that turns your favorite messaging apps into floating chat bubbles. It looks a lot like Chat Heads in Facebook Messenger. When a message comes in it appears as a bubble on the side of the screen. When you tap on the bubble it opens a floating window so you can respond without leaving the current app. Flychat woks with many messaging apps, including WhatsApp, Hangouts, Textra, Twitter, and more.

2. Dingless

dingless

Dingless is an absurdly simple app that solves a problem you probably never realized existed. Notification sounds are great when you’re away from your phone, but are they really necessary when you are already looking at your screen? DIngless mutes notification sounds when the display is on and automatically unmutes when the display is off. You can also use the app to bunch multiple notifications together into one single alert.

3. PaperSpot

PaperSpot is an interesting wallpaper app that can automatically change your wallpaper based on your location. For example, you can select a wallpaper to use at home and a completely different wallpaper to use when you’re at the office. Simply find a location on the map, choose the size of the area, and pick a wallpaper. PaperSpot will do all the work for you. The app is currently in beta.

4. Mazes & More

mazes

Mazes & More is exactly what the title says. If you love well-designed and challenging mazes, this is a great game. Simply swipe your finger in the direction you want to go. The game draws the line for you and stops at all intersections. Beside the classic mazes, there are four other modes to challenge your skills. All the mazes are made by hand and the game looks great.

5. Putthole

putthole

Putthole is a unique game that combines elements from Pipe Dream, endless challenges, and putt putt golf. The “course” consists of 16 spaces and 16 tee boxes. The goal is to use the pieces below the course to get golf balls into the holes. You can tap the pieces to rotate and drag into place. As soon as you sink a putt, the pieces are removed and added to your score. The game just keeps going like that until you quit or can’t make any more moves.
