The OnePlus 3 seems to be facing a supply shortage, as current delivery times on the site indicate that new orders will begin shipping in two weeks. That’s an insanely long delivery time for a device that has been on the market for months now. Currently, only the graphite OnePlus 3 is available, the Soft Gold version is sold out completely.
GizmoChina is reporting they’ve been in contact with people in OnePlus’ supply chain that have indicated the company is stopping production of the current OnePlus 3 model. The source says a new model will replace it, likely called the OnePlus 3S or OnePlus 3 Plus.
So what’s the reason for this? The source says OnePlus plans on changing the CPU inside the phone to a Snapdragon 821. The phone initially shipped with a Snapdragon 820. Another reason given is that the new model will switch from an AMOLED panel to an LCD panel due to a shortage in AMOLED panels. The source says the shortage in AMOLED panels is the reason OnePlus hasn’t been able to keep up with demand for the device.
Of course, this is all just hearsay communicated to a site through a supply chain so it’s not 100% accurate, but GizmoChina does note that their source has been accurate before. No hints were given as to when OnePlus plans on unveiling this new model of the OnePlus 3.
