Huawei Mate 9 images surface online suggesting two variants

With Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 officially dead, Huawei could not have a more opportune time to release the Mate 9. Evan Blass leaked the two styles for the device ahead of the device’s launch on November 3rd in Munich, Germany. Blass said people familiar with Huawei’s plans have stated two designs will be shown off, a standard phone and one featuring a curved display.

Internally, the devices have New York-themed codenames, with the standard variant called Manhattan, while the curved display unit is codenamed Long Island. The devices look very similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge range of phones, but Galaxy Note 7 fans may want to take note of that curved display.

Full specs for both devices haven’t been released yet, but we do know the larger curved display device will feature a QHD display, while the standard version will only feature FHD. Aside from that, the devices will also support Android’s Daydream VR platform. The final piece of information suggests that the curved screen variant might be exclusive to Huawei’s home territory of China, while the standard Mate 9 will see global release, including in the United States.
