Google Home was one of the most exciting things from the Pixel event. It was announced earlier in the summer, but we were able to finally get our hands and voices on the device for the first time. As the name implies, Google Home is a device for your entire home. It works with other devices in your home, but unfortunately it’s not great at working with other people.
Google is trying to create a personal Google for everyone, but right now the Home can only work with one Google account. That means you’re stuck with one Google Calendar, one profile for Spotify playlists, one YouTube account, etc. If you set up the Home on your account, other people in your home will be using your account as well. Obviously, this is a problem, but one that Google plans to fix.
Google told The Verge that they are working on supporting multiple accounts, but did not give a timeline. The barrier for a feature like this is voice recognition. In a perfect world, the Home would be able to recognize different people and match commands to their personal Google accounts. That’s Google’s ultimate goal.
