Google officially unveils the Pixel and Pixel XL

Google has officially unveiled the Pixel and Pixel XL at its event in San Francisco today. This marks the first smartphones released with Google Assistant which was unveiled at Google I/O 2016 and then released alongside the new messaging app, Allo. Now Google Assistant is built-in system-wide and can be accessed by holding down on the home button.

DXOMark rated the Pixel at 89 which is the highest rating ever for a smartphone with a 12.3 MP camera. Google will be providing free unlimited photos and videos at full resolution for Pixel owners whereas currently there is a limit if you upload images and videos at full resolution with other devices.

As for what is under the hood, the Pixel features a 5-inch AMOLED display and the Pixel XL features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display. The rest of the specs are identical other than the battery size and are as follows:

The Pixel will also include a 2,770mAh battery with Quick Charge capabilities. 7 hours in 15 minutes Google claims that users will be able to get 7 hours of usage after charging the device for just 15 minutes. The Pixel XL will include a 3,450mAh battery which is a bit larger than the Nexus 6P which was released last year, and will also include Quick Charge capabilities.

Additionally, Google understands how much of a pain it can be to get reliable customer support, so the company has officially integrated support directly into the device. The support section will provide 24/7 live customer care and even includes a screen-share option in case the support staff needs to see what’s going on.

As for availability, the Pixel and Pixel XL will both be a Verizon-exclusive for carriers in the US, but will also be available for purchase from the Google Store. The Pixel will be priced at $649 for the 32GB version and $750 for the 128GB variant with the Pixel XL being priced at $770 for the 32GB version and $870 for the 128GB variant.
