Google Station promises “fast Wi-Fi for everyone” around the world
Google has announced a new initiative by the name of “Google Station” which hopes to bring reliable public Wi-Fi hotspots to different locations around the world. The company has launched this initiative in India, partnering with RailTel and Indian Railways in an effort to keep everyone connected at various train stations in the country.
According to the report from The Verge, Caesar Sengupta, VP of Product Management, explained that “about 15,000 people in India get online for the first time every day with the company’s railway Wi-Fi hotspots.” Additionally, there are approximately 3.5 million users of the service every month at the 52 different train stations around India.
Google Station is aiming to bring its service to 100 train stations by the end of 2016 and will be expanding to different locations around the world. The way that Google plans to do this is by offering partnerships with different types of venues including universities and cafes then it will set up “high-quality, secure, easily accessible” Wi-Fi hotspots that won’t be a pain to use.
