Rumor: Google will introduce a new router called Google WiFi at the Pixel Event

Android Police is reporting that Google is set to launch more than just the Pixel phones at its event on October 4th. Two sources have stated that the company plans on introducing a new Wi-Fi router called Google WiFi. The device will cost $129 and will supposedly have “smart” features that resemble OnHub, but in a much smaller package.

No, that’s not Google WiFi. It’s an Echo Dot.

In fact, the sources claim that this new router will resemble Amazon’s new Echo Dot, which itself is just a chopped off version of the Echo (and OnHub). The truly interesting thing about this leak is that once of the sources claims the routers can be linked together to create a large, meshed wireless network.

Aside from the new router, Google is slated to reveal the Pixel, Pixel XL, and the new Chromecast Ultra that is capable of streaming in 4K.

While everything released so far is rumor, Android Police is careful to note that the devices have been described by two independent sources, so it’s very likely that the information here is about as accurate as you can get for a leak.
