Google Play support on Chrome OS was only available for those willing to put their devices on the developer channel, but if you’re more of a stability type of person then today is your day. Google Play is now seeding out to Chrome OS stable.
For now, only the Acer Chromebook R11 and Asus Chromebook Flip are seeing support, which makes sense considering those were the 2 devices originally in testing in the dev channel (and one of 3 known to get support at launch, the other being Google’s own Chromebook Pixel). You’re going to be looking for version 53.0.2785.129 and platform version 8530.90.0.
Beyond the inclusion of Google Play support, this update also includes a number of bug fixes, security updates, and feature enhancements, with the kernel specifically getting some love this time around. To check for the update, open the Settings menu (3 dots on the upper right) and check the “About Chrome OS” button.
