Quick reminder to users and developers alike: Google Play is getting 8 new categories starting September 28th. Developers will be able to classify their apps under these new categories, and users will naturally get to browse them. Here’s what’s coming:
This is just one of many things Google is doing to help make discoverability more effective in Google Play. It should lead to more downloads for developers and a better browsing session for users who don’t know exactly what they’re looking for.
Alongside the new names are name changes to a couple of different categories. Transportation will be renamed “Maps & Navigation”, and the Media & Video category will be renamed “Video Players & Editors.” Sounds good to us. Look out for the changes to drop in a week’s time.
