Yup, Comcast is getting into the wireless game. The much-maligned cable television and home internet provider wants to be your source of communication while you’re on the go.
The company confirmed plans to launch the service at some point in 2017. Apparently, they will use a combination of Verizon’s 4G LTE network and deployed WiFi hotspots to make for a hybrid service not unlike Republic Wireless.
For Verizon’s part, they say their involvement is strictly standard MVNO stuff, meaning they have an agreement for Comcast to use their network, but are otherwise uninvolved with the inner-workings of the service.
With some of the uneasy moves Comcast has made as of late — like imposing data caps on home internet users — we wouldn’t blame you for being cautious in doing any business with them. That said, they’re be another option among the sea of many, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing what they have to offer once they get the ball rolling.
