Soon Gear VR and Oculus Rift headsets will be getting achievement systems to make them more competitive with services like Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam. Oculus made the announcement that an update will be rolling out for all Oculus Home and Gear VR users in the next few weeks.
The first few games to feature achievements include Minecraft, Anshar Wars 2, and Hitman Go. You’ll be able to see which achievements your friends have earned, though there are new privacy settings that allow you to opt-out of sharing that information should you want to do so.
“Starting today, Oculus will begin rolling out achievements on Gear VR and Rift. Now, people will be able to track their progress against unlocking achievements in an app, browse what friends are up to in VR, and discover new apps friends are playing.”
Achievements that haven’t been unlocked yet will appear greyed out as you browse the list, while some achievements that are considered spoilers for the games will be hidden. Rollout started yesterday and Oculus mentions you’ll need to update your Gear VR and Rift headset to the latest version in order to see the achievements.
