Amazon’s new Fire HD 8 comes with Alexa voice control

Amazon today announced a refreshed model of their Fire HD 8 tablet. On the hardware side, we’re getting a 1,200 x 800 display, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, and claims of 12-hour battery life which is a direct improvement over the previous model.

Of course, Amazon hasn’t necessarily been interested in offering insane hardware, so surely there are some new tricks up its sleeve on the software department.

You can use Amazon Alexa to do things like check on news, weather, and email, control your smart home, order Uber rides, buy new goods online, and more. Everything else is as you’d expect, with easy access to Amazon’s Appstore, Amazon Underground for free premium apps and in-app content, and all the multimedia you can handle from Kindle, Amazon Video, and more.

The Amazon Fire HD 8 will launch September 21st and starts at just $89.99. Those who don’t want to upgrade can look forward to an update that will bring Alexa support at some point down the line. You can pre-order the new tablet right here.
