Android 7.0 Nougat DSC00660

Pixel and Pixel XL will both launch with Android 7.1 Nougat

When the Pixel and Pixel XL finally launch, they will be the primary Google phones for championing Android 7.0 Nougat. That much is largely obvious, but new rumors say that they’ll be getting an even new version of the firmware out of the box.

LlabTooFer on Twitter is reporting that both devices will launch with versions Android 7.1 and build NDE63B. These are just numbers right now, but the numbering scheme suggests these are maintenance upgrades to refine the initial launch of Nougat.

Of course, we don’t know what these refinements will be just yet. While Google has used these incremental upgrades in the past to tweak and add new features, they’ve also used them to simply fix underlying bugs and other things users probably wouldn’t notice under the hood. For now, though, we’re expecting at least everything in the current release of Android 7.0 Nougat, and that’s already sweet enough to keep us happy.
