One of the biggest questions surrounding the LG V20 has been whether it will follow up the LG G5 with a modular design. If this latest report is to be believed, the answer will be a resounding “no”. It seems that LG has learned from its mistakes that were made with the G5 and its questionable modular design and the company is looking to change things up a bit.
According to CNet Korea, LG will be bringing back the removable battery and microSD card slot, but will do so in a way that we haven’t seen in any of the 2016 flagship devices. These latest renders show that the V20 will include a removable back that will reveal the battery and microSD slot, but with a twist. Instead of sliding off the entire back of the device, users will be able to access the battery by removing half of the back and bottom, leaving the rest of the device intact.
We presume, based on the renders, that the battery will slide out of the bottom of the device, with the microSD card slot and SIM tray being accessed when the rear panel is removed. However, these renders are based on “eyewitness accounts” and have not been confirmed by anyone else just yet. It’s also possible that the battery can be removed after the panel has been taken off.
The LG V20 will be unveiled on September 6th in San Francisco and will be the first device released which will include Android 7.0 Nougat. The device will also include a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC for superior audio quality, a dual-camera module on the rear, and will be offered in three different colors. As for any other specs, we aren’t exactly sure what’s the V20 will include, but being just a few days away, we just have to play the waiting game.
