Hands-on: ZTE Axon 7 Mini can’t Daydream, but it does save you some money [VIDEO]
ZTE hit the ground running with a new smartphone this week — the ZTE Axon 7 Mini. The name, at first glance, indicates a smallish phone, but it’s only smallish in relevance to the 5.5-inch original it takes after: the Mini variant is 5.2-inch, which is in the ballpark of HTC and Samsung’s standard smartphones these days.
If you were hoping for something more compact, this isn’t it. What it is, is a much more affordable version of the Axon 7 that launched earlier this year. Whereas the Axon 7 launched with top-line specs to become the first Daydream-ready smartphone on the market with its Snapdragon 820 chipset, 2560 x 1440 resolution, and 4GB of RAM, the Axon 7 Mini turns things down a bit with the following readout:
- 5.2-inch Full HD AMOLED display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB Storage expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD
- 16MP rear-facing camera
- 8MP front-facing camera
- 2,705mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 capabilities
- Dual front-facing speakers with Dolby Atmos technology
- Fingerprint sensor
- USB Type-C charging port
It borrows the same charming good looks, though, so there’s that. €299 is also what you’re getting for the price tag, and while the Axon 7’s price was already reasonable for what you’re getting, this should help those with even tighter budgets stay with the ZTE gang if they’re true fans of the brand.
