Late Tuesday evening (in the US), Italy was hit with a magnitude-6.2 earthquake which rocked central Italy to its core. Over 200 people have lost their lives to the tragedy, with more people injured and emergency services continuing to search through the rubble for more survivors.

Due to the tragedy, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have removed any charges for trying to reach friends or family that may have been affected by the earthquake.

  • Verizon – Landline customers will incur no charges for calling from the US to Italy between August 23 and August 26. Wireless customers will incur no charges for texts or international phone calls to Italy between August 23 and August 26.
  • AT&T – Landline customers will incur no charges for calls from the US to Italy between August 23 and August 26. Wireless customers (including GoPhone users) will incur no charges for texts or phone calls from the US to Italy between August 23 and August 26.
  • T-Mobile – Wireless customers will incur no charges for calls from the US to Italy between August 24 and August 28. Additionally, any roaming charges will be waived for any customers in the area. The offer applies to all T-Mobile Simple Choice prepaid and postpaid customers, as well as customers of MetroPCS, GoSmart Mobile, and WalMart Family Mobile.

Sprint seems to be the only carrier to not have made any type of announcement in regards to this disaster, which is a bit questionable. Regardless, it’s great to see carriers doing their part to help out in tough times as these, even if it’s only for a few days.
