Sprint has been quietly slipping further and further away from the top three carriers in the United States, but it seems like the company is ready to make another change. According to a memo that was leaked to the folks at PhoneArena, Sprint will be “Saying Goodbye” to 2-year contracts and allowing either installments or leasing options for devices.

Starting on August 26th (later next week), Sprint will make the move which will leave Verizon as the only carrier that gives customers the ability to sign a two-year contract with an upgrade. Sprint has created a “competitive comparison” chart that shows that none of the other top carriers offer this option any longer.
There may be a work around for those who want to still sign up for a two-year contract, as this memo gives instructions if a customer will be walking away from Sprint.
If a customer is going to walk away from Sprint because they can’t get 2-year pricing, refer them to sprint.com or Telesales. They can only receive 2-year pricing in these 2 channels only– there is no Manager override.
The memo details the new changes which shows that with the Lease option, Sprint will own the device but customers will be able to upgrade early after paying your bill for 12 consecutive months. With the Monthly Installment option, the customer will own their device but will have to pay an extra $5 per month if they want to be able to upgrade early.
