Nokia’s looking to burst back onto the scene and will announce new Android devices later this year

Nokia is one of those brands that many of us still hold close to our hearts. I mean, who can forget those bricks that withstood so much punishment day in and day out for years without failing. The company fell on some hard times after its stint with Windows Mobile and has turned its eye to Android on it’s way back.

There have been reports surrounding Nokia’s resurgence which will include the release of several Android-powered devices, but we haven’t been given a time frame for the release. Now, after a statement from Nokia’s President of the Joint Marketing team at Nokia China, Mike Wang, we are expecting to see 3 or 4 Android devices from Nokia in 2017.

Wang mentioned that at least two of these devices will be flagship level smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat with an “improved Nokia Z Launcher“. It was also mentioned that the unveiling of these devices will be seen in Q4 of 2016, with official launches sometime in 2017.

As for what Nokia considers to be flagship level, the two devices will feature a 5.2 and 5.5-inch QHD display, 22MP camera, metal body, and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. These devices are also expected to be water and dust proof, which is something we would expect from Nokia considering its history. Nokia will also be unveiling one or two budget devices to ensure it is covering as much of the market as possible.

In addition to these smartphones, Nokia recently acquired Withings, which opens the company up to the wearables market. This could lead to more smartwatches and fitness trackers from Nokia that will accompany the new smartphones when released later this year.

I, for one, am hoping that Nokia surprises everyone and makes a glamorous re-emergence into the smartphone market and become a household name again.
