Is your city one of Google Fiber’s 24 new testing locations for wireless fiber?
Google has filed a request with the FCC to test wireless fiber internet service in as many as 24 cities. In case you’re unaware, Google has a dream of delivering broadband internet to homes without having to run wire directly to the units. This feat can be achieved thanks to spectrums in the range of 3.4GHz to 3.8GHz.
In Layman’s terms, you’ll get internet that’s nearly as fast and reliable as using a fiber-optic hookup without the ugly cable to go with them. Wondering if your city will part of those testing rounds whenever Google gets this stuff off the ground? Here are 12 that they’ve detailed in their filling:
- Atwater, California
- Mountain View, California
- Palo Alto, California
- San Bruno, California
- San Francisco, California
- San Jose, California
- Boulder, Colorado
- Kansas City, Kansas
- Omaha, Nebraska
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Provo, Utah
- Reston, Virginia.
As you might notice, the list of disclosed city largely makes up current cities where Fiber is already operational. The other cities are those where Google’s fiber deployment has been delayed. It’s say to say if Google can run fiber in a city, they want to provide wireless access, too. Of course, testing is testing, and we’re not sure how long this project could take to come to full fruition, so we’ll have to wait and see how the story unfolds from here on out.
