Galaxy Note 7 has one of the brightest displays ever tested, ambient light sensors on front and back
If outdoor viewing is a big deal for you, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 could be your best option when using a smartphone in all lighting conditions. According to DisplayMate, who spent some time analyzing the display of the Note 7, they found the phone was capable of reaching upwards of 1,048 nits — the brightest smartphone display DisplayMate has ever tested (and they’ve tested just about all of them).
It should be noted that the phone is only ever capable of reaching that maximum brightness level when Auto Brightness mode is enabled and it’s in an area where there’s extremely bright ambient light (outdoors or direct sunlight for instance). It’s this crazy high peak brightness that also makes the Galaxy Note 7 perfect for HDR videos, along with the phone’s Digital Cinema DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut, “perfect blacks,” and “Infinite Contrast Ratio.”
Something else worth noting, the Galaxy Note 7 is one of the first smartphones to feature ambient light sensors on both the front and back of the device. Typically, a smartphone only has a single sensor on the front, which makes it difficult for the phone to accurately measure brightness if you’re standing over it and casting a shadow, for instance. With two sensors measuring lighting on both sides of the phone, you’ll get a much better reading, allowing the phone to tune the brightness of the display accordingly.
We already saw big improvements to the Auto Brightness in the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, and it looks like the Galaxy Note 7 only takes that one step further. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is sounding better every minute.
