Samsung Pay vulnerability allows hackers to steal credit cards wirelessly

Mobile payment methods have become increasingly popular in the last few couple of years. The convenience of paying for things with your phone means leaving your wallet at home. Your phone may be more secure than your wallet, but that doesn’t mean mobile payments are 100% theft-proof. A vulnerability has been discovered in Samsung Pay that puts your credit cards at risk.

The vulnerability allows hackers to wirelessly steal credit cards. Samsung Pay security works by translating credit card info into “tokens.” This makes it so your credit card number can’t be stolen, however, the tokens can still be stolen. A security researcher explained that the token process can be predicted. The tokens become weaker every time Samsung Pay generates a new one. Hackers can steal these tokens and use them on their own device. He even proved the theory by doing it himself.
