Samsung Gear VR owners will get exclusive footage of the 2016 Olympics

We are just over a month away from the start of the Rio 2016 Olympics Games, and NBC has announced a pretty awesome partnership with Samsung. The television network will be offering 85 hours of Virtual Reality content, across all of the various sports, and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The 85 hours of VR programming, which will be captured by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and supplied to NBC Olympics, will include the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, men’s basketball — including the semifinals and final — gymnastics, track and field, beach volleyball, diving, boxing, and fencing, as well as highlight packages of those sports.

For those who aren’t aware, this special offering is only valid for owners of the Samsung Gear VR and the following handsets:

The biggest catch with this partnership is that the VR content will be on a one-day delay, meaning that if you want to watch the Opening Ceremonies on August 5th, you’ll need to wait until August 6th to watch them in Virtual Reality.

With the Olympics starting in just over a month, it might be a good time to go grab a Samsung Gear VR headset and take advantage of your favorite sports in Virtual Reality.
