Today was a busy day for the Android team. First, we finally got a taste of the latest dessert name with Android Nougat, and now Android.com has been redesigned.
The redesign has now organized the various Android devices into 5 different categories: Phones, Tablets, Android Wear, Android Auto, and Android TV. However, there’s one glaring difference between this new update and what used to be featured on the Android landing page. The Android One devices have been removed.
Android One was introduced at Google I/O 2014 as a way to get low-cost Android smartphones into the hands of people who couldn’t afford the flagships. The program has seen its fair share of struggles, and then was eventually rolled into Google’s new smartphone division earlier this year.
We will have to wait and see if Google will continue to work with manufacturers on the Android One program, but it definitely seems that Android One is just about done for.
In addition to the removal of the Android One devices, the new Android.com redesign features a section for popular apps for various devices. Clicking the app will take you to the Play Store where you can download to your heart’s content.
