Puzzle platformers are the bread and butter of the gaming world. It’s the type of game that most people have played at some time or another. Retro platformers are especially popular. Gravity Duck is a game that has all the charm of a retro game. It puts one of the strongest forces on the planet in the hands of a cute, yellow duck.
The story of Gravity Duck is a little bizarre. It starts with an Easter Island head giving a duck the power to control gravity. He does this so the duck can collect golden eggs for him. That’s the goal in each level: collect the egg at the end. In order to make it to the egg, you’ll need to think in all four directions. Use gravity to walk on walls and the ceiling to avoid obstacles and enemies.
Gravity Duck is easy to play. You move the duck with a virtual D-pad and switch gravity with the single “A” button. You can slightly control the movement of the duck while he’s flying through the air when gravity changes, but you can’t switch gravity mid-air. A little thing like that makes the game a lot harder. There are 140 levels and 4 stages to keep you busy, but don’t expect to fly through the levels. Difficulty ramps up quickly.
Gravity Duck looks like a game that has been around for decades. It has an awesome retro vibe and simple controls. The gravity element makes you think differently about a platformer. It’s not the typical run-and-jump that you’ll find in most platformer games. Each level is a puzzle with a lot to consider. Prepare to attempt levels multiple times before getting the timing just right. You can download Gravity Duck ad-free for $0.99 and unlock the DLC for another $0.99.
