Nest introduces a new way to help save you money with its Thermostat
The Nest Thermostat is already known to help save users money with its ability to set schedules as to when to turn on your AC or heat. A new software update is helping users save even more with its Time of Savings feature. In partnership with your energy provider, this new feature can “automatically reduce your heating or cooling use when electricity costs are highest.”
This feature can be annoying and cumbersome due to the need to turn off your unit when the weather is at its worst, but it will still save you money in the long run. Saving money is the name of the game when it comes to these kinds of costs, so Nest is doing all that it can to help in that cause.
Nest’s first partnership is with SolarCity, but expects to roll out to other energy providers in the future with Southern California Edison next up on the list.
In order to sign up for Time of Savings, here are the pre-requisites:
- You need to be on a Time of Use rate plan with your energy provider. Not all energy providers offer Time of Use rate plans.
- Your energy partner needs to offer Time of Savings in your area.
- You need to have a Nest Thermostat running software 5.5 or later. Your thermostat must also be added to a Nest Account and connected to Wi-Fi and the internet.
- Your need to have an electric heating or cooling system.
