Chromebook plus Android

More Chromebooks will be getting Android apps via a developer release ‘soon’

After Google made the earth-shattering announcement that our favorite Android apps would be coming to Chromebooks, the biggest question has been when. Last week, we saw the ASUS Chromebook Flip get a developer update which brought the Play Store along with it.

Now, thanks to Google’s Chromebook Help page, we have a better idea as to what Chromebooks will be next on the list to get the Play Store. The Acer Chromebook R11 and the 2015 Chromebook Pixel will be receiving an update via the Developer Channel. The update is expected to roll out in either June or July of this year, then the rest of the eligible Chromebooks later this year and early next year.

In order to prepare yourself for this awesomeness, here are the steps you need to take to get your Chromebook onto the Developer Channel for updates:

  1. Sign in to your Chromebook with the owner account.
  2. Click the status area, where your account picture appears.
  3. Click Settings > About Chrome OS > More info….
  4. Click the Change channel… button.
  5. Pick a channel from the box that appears.

If you’re wondering whether your Chromebook will be one of the lucky ones to get the Play Store, be sure to check out the extensive list here.
