OnePlus 3 vs Galaxy S7 vs Moto Z vs HTC 10 vs LG G5 [CHART]

The OnePlus 3 was finally announced earlier today, and it looks like OnePlus may finally have a bonafide “flagship killer” on their hands. This phone has all the bells and whistles you would expect from a top of the line phone in 2016, but it costs less than $400. How does the OnePlus 3 really compare to the other big-name flagships? Let’s take a look.

Display

The OnePlus has one of the larger displays of the bunch. At 5.5-inches, it’s the same size as the Motorola Moto Z and larger than every other phone on the list. The big difference comes in resolution.

While most devices these days have 2560×1440 displays, OnePlus is sticking with 1080p. Spec-heads will question this, but the truth is that most people don’t need anything more. Unless you’re using the phone for virtual reality a lot, 1080p is more than fine. It will also save you some precious battery life.

Camera

Camera quality is one of the toughest competitions these days. For a while, only Samsung could manage to make a good smartphone camera, but most manufacturers have caught up. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is still the king of this category, but OnePlus looks to have a good contender.

The 16MP shooter puts the OnePlus 3 right up with the LG G5 in terms of megapixel count, but that never tells the whole story. Preliminary camera samples look impressive. It will be tough to top the Galaxy S7, but the important thing is the camera on the OnePlus 3 is not a deterrent.

Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is in every major flagship phone across the board. 4GB of RAM is also the standard…wait, the OnePlus 3 has 6GB of RAM? Holy s***. The Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM has been a solid setup for the Galaxy S7, HTC 10, and LG G5. We assume it will also be great in the Moto Z. 6GB of RAM should be even better. As long as OnePlus’ software is good, this phone should fly.

Battery life is right on par with the other devices. 3,000 mAh puts it in line with the HTC 10 and Galaxy S7, but below the Motorola Moto Z Force and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. 3,000 mAh is bigger than the Moto Z and the LG G5. The 1080p display should help battery life be better than the other devices in this list.

Extras

Every phone these days has to have some sort of gimmick. The Moto Z has a bunch of cool snap-on “Mods,” the Galaxy S7 is waterproof, the LG G5 has a “Modular” design, and the HTC 10’s gimmick is not having a gimmick. So what does the OnePlus 3 have? Well, there’s a button on the side that can put the phone into silent mode.

The real standout feature of the OnePlus 3 is the price. For $399, you’re getting a phone that can compete with the top flagships on every level. OnePlus has always tried to be the “flagship killer,” but they failed to live up to the hype. With the OnePlus 3, they finally have a mature device that can stand up to the big dogs.
